MERIT Summer Research Experience 2008/2009
The Melbourne School of Engineering and NICTA will sponsor successful applicants for 8-10 weeks with a studentship of $400 per week.
Are you thinking about pursuing research? The MERIT Summer Research Experience will introduce current undergraduate students to research through a summer project with researchers from the Melbourne School of Engineering and NICTA Victoria Research Laboratory.
This is your chance to experience research at a world class institute, currently ranked 21st in the world for technology (Times Higher Education Supplement), and to be a part of a community of over 300 graduate research students and almost 200 research staff working on innovative projects such as:
- Peer to Peer Gaming
- Geographic Information Systems
- Tissue Engineering & Drug Delivering Nano-technology
- Neuro-Engineering for Epilepsy
- Tsunami warning system
Projects
Projects are available in many of the research areas undertaken across the School of Engineering. Applicants are invited to browse through available projects, grouped into four themes representing significant research challenges and fields in which Melbourne has world class expertise:
- Information and Communication Systems
- Structured Matter
- Sustainable Systems
- Biomedical Engineering
Eligibility
Applicants to the program should:
- Be currently enrolled in an engineering degree at an Australian or New Zealand University and will have completed at least two years of undergraduate study by the end of this year and will have at least one year of study remaining
- Have an excellent academic record
Selection
Selection to the program will be based on:
- Academic merit
- Capability and interest in research
- Suitability of research / availability of research project or supervisor
